About
Lucas Huckabay is a mixed media artist, working with a diverse assortment of techniques and media, his most prominent being watercolor. In addition to technical explorations he uses various techniques and media to apply a whimsical lens to more serious topics pertaining to addiction and neurodivergence. Although currently based out of Newnan, Georgia, his artistic roots can be traced back to the midwest where he grew up in the Chicago suburbs and spent his early adulthood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His midwest roots play a significant role in the imagery portrayed and the themes explored in his work. During his time in Milwaukee, Huckabay participated in a variety of community galleries and festivals including Femfest and The Night Carnival. He is currently obtaining his BFA from the University of West Georgia, where he is concentrating on art education with a focus on print making. Since beginning at University of West Georgia, Huckabay has been featured in an assortment of juried exhibitions featuring his pieces such as Old Timer (2022), Lover’s Lagoon (2022), and Untied (2025).
Gallery Featured Work
Lover's Lagoon (2022)
Mixed media, 7x9".
Featured in a juried exhibition, Lovers Lagoon depicts two raccoons leisurely paddling down a river at night with the soft glow of a lantern casting a warm light over the scene.

Untied (2024)
Watercolor and colored pencil, 10.5x9".
Untied features a pair of Vans positioned in a manner that is reminiscent of sneakers dangling from a telephone line. The piece began with several washes of water color followed by colored pencil to capture the woven texture and unique wear of the sneakers.

Old Timer (2022)
Mixed media, 10x8".
This rustic, tranquil piece features a frog relaxing along a riverbank with his banjo. I began with a wash of watercolor followed by various layers of colored pencil, ink, and pastels.
